Yaks forward Jack McAra earns AJHL Rookie of the Week, Cabana takes Player of the Week
What a week for Pontiacs rookie Jack McAra.
The Alberta Junior Hockey League’s players of the week were announced on Tuesday, with Jack McAra being the Rookie of the Week due to his strong performances in three appearances.
McAra scored the opening goal on Wednesday night vs Sherwood Park, then collected three assists vs Grande Prairie on Friday and a pair on Saturday as well.
He is third amongst rookies in scoring with 3 goals and 12 assists across the AJHL.
McAra’s ascent to one of the league’s most dominant rookies has been stark lately. After going his first five AJHL games pointless, he’s only been held off the scoresheet once in the 11 games.
Combined with fellow rookie Billy Batten and 20-year-old Luka Sukovic, who is top-5 in scoring in his own right, they’ve become one of the best lines in the AJHL.
Bonnyville native Caden Cabana was named Player of the Week overall. The Lloydminster Bobcats captain had 4 goals and 2 assists in three road games this week. He sits tied for 12th in scoring.
