Vermilion Rock return to Sask/Alta Senior League 2-0, Elks winless to start
While the Elk Point Elks have struggled to start the Sask/Alta Senior Hockey League season, a returning team from the extended Lakeland area is undefeated after their first weekend of play.
The Vermilion Rock are 2-0 in their first season back since 2018-19.
The home opener on Friday night against the Kitscoty Monarchs was scoreless through 40 minutes, before Maurice Kiestra scored the ice-breaker. Jaxon Koenig and Colby Bowman each added tallies en route to the shutout.
Jacob Fiege made 21 saves in the shutout.
Dylan Eremko scored twice and added three assists, Jared Fischer potted a pair of goals as well to down the Elk Point Elks 6-3.
The Elks are 0-3 out of the gates, having lost to Lashburn and Wainwright.
Vermilion hosts the Dewberry Mustangs on Friday, as well as the Kitscoty Monarchs hosting the Hillmond Hitmen. Dewberry hosts Paradise Hill Saturday night, and Elk Point hosts Meadow Lake on Sunday afternoon.
