The Bonnyville Sr. Pontiacs are having one of the better starts to the season, sitting 2-2 through the first couple of weekends of North Central Hockey League play.

With one of, if not the youngest team in the league, the surge of youth has provided a different complexion than in year’s past.

The Sr’s found a way to win a nailbiter shootout in the season opener at the Devon Barons 7-6 on Oct. 14. In their home opener on Oct. 21, and so far their lone home game, the Red Deer Rustlers prevailed 8-3.

However, the team bounced back the next day to earn a 7-5 road win at Morinville. Last Saturday, the Sr. Pontiacs had a lighter lineup and the Barons enacted revenge for a 9-3 win.

With a game in hand, the Sr. Pontiacs are two points back off first in their division.

The league schedule works a little bit differently this year, with the league separated into two divisions, and lessened travel.

Bonnyville is home on Saturday, Nov. 4 against the Lacombe Generals. Puck drop is 7:30pm.
