Matteo Giampa invited to Florida Panthers Development Camp

Bonnyville Pontiacs forward Matteo Giampa will get a chance to skate with some pros next week.

The AJHL’s leading playoff scorer with 23 points and 3rd highest during the regular season, Giampa has been invited to take part in the Florida Panthers Development Camp

Giampa will be in Fort Lauderdale from July 9-14 to take part in the camp, which will feature Panthers’ draft picks and other rookies.

“I am really excited for this opportunity,” Giampa told Lakeland Connect. “I’m hoping I can showcase who I am as a hockey player and person to the Florida Panthers, and make the most of the experience. Hopefully, it provides me with a good launching ground for the upcoming season.”

The Virgil, Ontario native is committed to Canisius College, where he will play next season.

In his recent season with the Yaks, Giampa finished as a AJHL North Division All-Star, while leading the AJHL in assists and even strength points.

His 65 assists is third in franchise history in a single season.

Giampa is 6th all-time in Pontiacs history in points-per-game (1.26) for skaters who played over 100 contests with Bonnyville.

In 107 regular season games, Giampa compiled 45 goals, 90 assists, and 135 points.
