Cyr & Jean sworn in at Alberta Legislature

The new government has been sworn in.

On Tuesday, the 87 elected representatives in Alberta took their oaths and were sworn in at the Legislature, officially beginning a new regime of the UCP government, and new MLAs in both parties.

Scott Cyr, the Bonnyville-Cold Lake-St. Paul MLA, is back in the ledge after serving the Bonnyville-Cold Lake riding from 2015 to 2019.

Lac La Biche-Fort McMurray MLA Brian Jean, who has been named the Energy Minister under the Danielle Smith government, was also sworn in.

The United Conservatives hold 49 seats, while the New Democrats have 38 seats.

The summer will be light for the new government, as the first session of the new legislature doesn’t start until Oct. 30.

However, the GoA did announce that the fuel tax will continue to be suspended until the end of the year, keeping the costs at the pumps lowered for the time being.
