HEB puts on their second fine arts performance “Grease”

Thursday was a roller coaster of emotions for the staff and Grade 7 and 8 students at H.E. Bourgoin middle school.

With countless hours of dedication after school and during their lunch breaks, the school put on their second fine arts play Grease after introducing its first fine arts performance The Lion King just last year.

Over 40 students played an important role in making the performance come together, with costume changes and moving props making the audience believe it was a complete breeze with even more staff and volunteers behind the scenes pushing the buttons.

From handmade costumes to vocal performances, the dedication shined through each individual.

“I’m just so proud of the work ethic, integrity, and the commitment that they put into the show, just a really, really respectful bunch of students. They were pretty excited to put this on for the community, and they definitely outperformed my expectations,” said Principal Tracy Casselman.

“It’s awesome for the Bonnyville community to have a fine arts musical performance like this, we don’t see this often in the community so I am incredibly proud that we can invite people into our house.”

Students showed how grateful they were to have such an amazing team by taking a moment to thank everyone who made it come together and wishing those in their last year a goodbye as they make their way into high school.

It was clear to everyone in the gymnasium the special bond students made over the short period they had put together the performance.

“At HEB we have this vision that we are creating pathways of hope for youth in our community and we know that one thing we can do to lift up students is to let them follow their passion, and obviously fine arts are an important part of that, so not only do we believe in having students that have high academics and athleticism, but we recognize that arts are a huge part of a well-rounded human being,” said Casselman.

The school already has the theme for the next performance and is excited to share that hosting another play is on the agenda for next year.
