Bonnyville Pontiacs defenceman announced his commitment to an NCAA Division III team on Monday.
Quinton Gove, who was acquired mid-season from the NCDC, will be going to Amherst College next season.
The 20-year-old from Ypsilanti, MI collected 3 goals and 15 assists in 42 games with the Yaks this season.
“I’d say the academics there are second to none so that was a huge factor in committing to Amherst,’ said Gove in a press release. “They also have a really good hockey program and they field a competitive team almost every year.”
“I think next year they have a real chance to make the NCAA Tournament. They’re returning almost all of their forwards and adding a couple of players so I am really excited.”
Gove played parts of last season with the Drayton Valley Thunder and Lloydminster Bobcats.
Coming to Bonnyville, Gove has seen vast improvement, even earning AJHL Defensive Player of the Week.
“He’s a great teammate that’s a good two-way defensemen who brings energy and emotion to the team along with a high compete level,” said head coach Mario Pouliot.
“He has been the most improved player on our team since he’s joined us. He’s a great addition for Amherst and I wish him all the best.”
So far this post-season, Gove has 2 goals and 2 assists after a series win against the Bobcats on Sunday.
He is the 10th Yaks commitment to the NCAA this season.
