City moves ahead with Phase 3 golf renovations

The City of Cold Lake is moving forward with Phase 3 on the enhancements to the Cold Lake Golf and Winter Club.

The enhancement project is a multi-year project which began in 2021, with the focus on bunker renovations. The work included renovations of existing bunkers and playability of the course. To date, work has been done on a number of bunkers, including Holes #1, #2, #3, #6, #7 and #8. The improvements have made it easier for the maintenance department to get mechanical equipment in, making maintaining the bunkers more efficient. Work has also been done on drainage and the sand has been replaced.

From a player’s perspective, the results have been positive.

“We, along with the staff at the club, have received numerous compliments regarding the renovations,” said Mayor Craig Copeland. “Many of the long-standing members who have been around for a while, are happy to see the improvements on the course, with several saying the course is now shaping up to be back where it was, and is a pleasure to play.”

Phase 3, at a cost of $30,000, will focus on Holes #4, #5, #10 and another bunker on #7 and will be starting in early summer. The work will be done one bunker at a time, with a temporary green being used on the hole that is being worked on. From start to finish, Phase 3 should take about two weeks.

“The project was awarded to Urlacher’s Construction, who are working with the club’s maintenance people to reduce any impact these renovations will have on play.” Said Mayor Copeland. “From what I understand, there may be a slight modification in the hole sequence, but overall, anyone who comes out to play this summer will still have a great round.”
