Tales from the Timebox for February 14, 2023

This past Saturday was a great day for the Avalanche hockey teams in Elk Point. Not only did all our teams from U7 to U18 have a home game, but they all worked together to raise funds for a good cause. What started as the U15 team’s idea to tape their sticks and socks pink and donate all the proceeds of the 50/50’s to the cause; turned into all the Avalanche teams, the whole day from morning to night, raising money for cancer. And not only the Avalanche teams but the out-of-town teams got involved as well, taping their sticks and socks, etc. pink.

U7 Avalanche

Bright and early Saturday morning, the U7s faced off against the Dewberry/Marwayne Rustlers. Gavin ‘the Badger’ Brousseau with a hat trick. One of them assisted Rosaleigh ‘Rosie’ Nepoose-Gadwa with a real nice pass.  Taber ‘the Tiger’ Gadwa and ‘Awesome Lawson’ Moneta sniping a few goals. ‘Hard Knox’ Mudryk is on the board with a goal and some outstanding goaltending. Ryker ‘Mini Moose’ Ockerman, William ‘Tell All’ Farrell, Aksel ‘Lightning’ Aarbo, and ‘Bye Bye Birdi’ Bowman with some terrific forechecking and getting assists. Doing a great job on defense, the tandem of  Jaxtyn ‘ Jackhammer’ Krankowsky and Jacob ‘ Jake the Snake’ Botstein were guarding the home front. Gunnar ‘the Roadrunner’ Kelly was just a little distracted by the timekeeper and his little apprentices.

U9 Avalanche

Next up, the U9 team played at 10 am. They also took on the Rustlers from Dewberry/ Marwayne. Jase ‘the Jackal’ Malo with a mitt full of goals. Aspyn ‘Machine Gun’ Kelly, Landon ‘Lights Out’ St Arnault, and Cohen ‘Big Horn’ Brousseau with a few goals each. Teraleigh Nepoose-Gadwa and Charlie ‘Chickadee’ Davis each scored a goal. Tytus ‘Titan’ Gadwa and Elisabeth ‘Lizzy’ Page are setting up some of the goals.  ‘Jumbo Jay’ Large and Dax ‘My Boy’ Bowman both with assists and just missed scoring on their one-timers. Thomas ‘the Tank’ Morris with some strong defensive plays to help out his buddy, the goaltender Benjamin ‘Benny Boy’ Saddleback.

U11 Avalanche

The U11 Avalanche team took the time before their game against Chauvin/ Edgerton to change out their skate laces to pink. They also sported pink sock tape and stick tape. The Avalanche won this one 7 to 3. League-leading scorer Hudson ‘the Bull’ Brousseau with four goals. Ava ‘the Red Baron’ Rawlake with a couple of goals and an assist. Tor ‘the Tornado’ Aarbo blasting one into the twine. Freewheeling, with hair flowing, defenseman Lennox ‘All Out’ St. Arnault getting the green light from coach Aaron Aarbo going coast to coast with three assists. Victoria ‘Miss Vickie’ Page, Hunter ‘Hardrock’ Pankiw, and Derrace Kitchemokaman are all on the score sheet with assistance. Goalie Stetson ‘Shack’ Reynolds not only stopped the puck but also assisted on one of the goals.

U13 Avalanche

The U13 hosted the top team in their division, the U13 all female team from Lloydminster. This team had beaten them earlier in the season by double digits. On Saturday, the game was tied at three all until the final six minutes when the wheels fell off the cart a bit, and the Blazers took the lead. The Avalanche lost 6 to 3 in the end. Remington ‘Steel‘ Reynolds with a goal and two assists. William ‘Billy Bob’ Ballas with a goal and an assist. Jaxon ‘Smitty’ Smith motored in from the point and buried one.  Farm hand Hudson ‘the Bull’ Brousseau with a couple of assists.

U15 Avalanche

The U15 team was all fired up on Saturday and finally defeated a team that had given them a lot of trouble in the past. The Avalanche defeated the Lac La Biche Clippers in the final score. 5 to 1. Madden ‘Mad Dog’ Flamand with two goals and an assist. Evett ‘Snoop Dog’ Smereka with a goal and an assist. Sabastien ‘ Basher’ Brousseau with a goal. And up from the U13 farm team, ‘Wild Wyatt’ Fontaine also buried one. Two assists for Quinton ‘ Rampage’ Dumont-Quinney. Trayden’ the Great’ Gadwa and Hawke Cardinal are adding assists.

The U18 team played later on Saturday and Sunday evening, but we didn’t receive any results.

Back at the rink on Sunday afternoon, it was another busy day. The U11 team hosted the Wainwright Bisons in a high scoring event, the final 14 to 9 for the Avalanche. Greyson ‘Big Bang’ Koppang stripped the puck off the Bison defenseman and went in all along, scoring a beauty of a goal. Defenseman Hudson ‘ the Hammer’ Krankowski gets the green light going end to end, scoring a hat trick. Six more goals for the Bull. I think it would be safe to say that Hudson Brousseau has been UNSTOP-A-BULL this year! The ‘Red Baron with two goals and some awesome backchecking. Hunter ‘ Hardrock’ Pankiw with a goal and two helpers. Wheeling out of his own end,  ‘All Out’ St Arnault going all out, scoring one all alone.

Next up, the  U13 team played the other Lloydminster  Blazers teams.  This game ended in a five-all tie.
