The Clayton Bellamy Foundation has been successful in receiving provincial grant funding and will receive dollars from the Town of Bonnyville to build a new performing arts theatre.
Town council had the item from the Clayton Bellamy Foundation come back to the table last Tuesday.
Since receiving the Community Facility Enhancement Program grant for $285,000, the Town, which had set aside $100,000 in its capital budget for the 2023 year, made the motion officially to grant the board the money.
“I’m super excited to see this project moving forward,” said Mayor Elisa Brosseau.
“That’s all in the spirit of collaborating with other organizations and so you can pool all the resources you can afford to give. And I mean afford, not just financial, they’re spearheading the manpower in putting this together. I think it’s really important the Town support organizations like this, so we see these types of projects go ahead in the town.”
By being awarded these funds, the Foundation takes one step closer to making the new theatre a reality.
Major fundraising dollars have been committed by Strathcona Resources, Canadian Natural Resources, Lakeland Sports and Recreation Association, and from the City of Cold Lake, as well.
Bellamy estimated before the end of 2022 that they were at roughly half of their target of $1.5 million.
