Stolen truck with rifle found, woman charged after collision with police
A Frog Lake woman was arrested an gunpoint after being involved in a minor collision with police vehicles in a stolen truck.
On Sunday, December 11, at around 7:00pm, Bonnyville RCMP received a report of a stolen Dodge Ram truck with a rifle left inside had been stolen from the Cold Lake area.
At around 10:45pm, police were able to track down the coordinates of the vehicle at a residence in Kehewin.
Bonnyville members attended the location and located the truck parked in the driveway of the residence with a female behind the wheel and a male in the passenger seat.
As the RCMP pulled up, the female put the truck in gear and tried to flee the scene, striking both police motor vehicles, causing minimal damage, police said.
The female was arrested at gunpoint and found to have the rifle laying across her lap.
The male immediately exited the vehicle with his hands up and was arrested without incident and later released without charges.
Janel Smith, 27, from Frog Lake was found to be a suspended driver as well.
She was charged with two counts of Assault On Police, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Drive Motor Vehicle While Prohibited, Possession of a Stolen Truck Over $5000, Possession of a Stolen Rifle Under $5000, Possession of Break-In Instruments, Fail to Comply with Probation and three Firearms Offences.
She was brought before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody. Her court date is December 22nd.
