St. Paul RCMP respond to armed and barricaded situation
Shortly after 2:00 a.m. on Nov. 4, 2022, St. Paul RCMP responded to a 911 call near 50 street and 46 avenue for an assault that involved a firearm. It was learned that a male allegedly assaulted two women, and pointed a firearm at one of them. The suspect and victims are known to each other.
When police arrived on scene, the suspect was no longer at the location. After some investigation, the suspect was believed to be inside a residence near 45 avenue and 48 street. Police believed the suspect had the firearm with him in the residence. After some time, the suspect left the house and was arrested. A search of the house did not reveal the firearm.
Ashton Pankiw (29), resident of Elk Point, Alta. is charged with numerous offences including:
- Assault (x2)
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
- Pointing a firearm
- Careless use of a firearm
- Possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon when knowing possession unauthorized – second offence
- Possession of restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammo without licence/registration
- Weapons possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization (x2)
Following a judicial hearing, Ashton Pankiw was remanded into custody and is set to appear on Nov. 10, 2022 in St. Paul Provincial Court.
