Town of St. Paul applies for a Crime Prevention Grant
The Town of St. Paul will apply for a Crime Prevention Grant through the Government of Alberta. The province is currently offering a one-time funding, The Alberta Crime Prevention Grant, for up to two (2) years, 2022-23 and 2023-24 for municipalities. to be eligible for the grant, the project or program must focus on direct delivery of services or supports for crime prevention or community safety and wellbeing. Grants are available from $25,000 to $150,000/yr. for Alberta based programs or projects that:
- explore or use innovative, promising or proven crime prevention practice
- enhance or create prevention activities for people at risk of becoming involved in criminal activity
- prevent crime or add public safety measures for vulnerable people or communities targeted by crime
- strengthens or adds capacity to an existing program or initiative
Mayor of St. Paul, Maureen Miller said the grant will allow the town to “hone into some of [the programs] that we know will work, but we just don’t have the funding to push them through.”
The town will work with community partners, like the St. Paul & District Chamber of Commerce. Other partners include the local RCMP, County of St. Paul, Summer Village of Horseshoe Bay and tentatively the Town of Elk Point. with the County of St. Paul be the managing partner.
“Fingers crossed [that we will get the grant] because we already have programs in place, we just need some more depth and funding to bite into them,” said Miller, who is optimistic that the grant application process will be quick.
The town applied for the grant at the end of September.
