FABCA basketball tournament sees Cold Lake win

The Filipino Association of Bonnyville and Cold Lake Alberta held its first Lakeland Cup basketball tournament earlier this month, which saw teams from the area duke it out for bragging rights.

While their previous volleyball tournament was held in Bonnyville, this followup was hosted in Cold Lake.

In the end, Uniteam Cold Lake won the tournament, beating Maple Lloydminster in the final.

Superior Bonnyville was the bronze finishers and 4th place went to Lac La Biche.

Organizer Eddy de Castro said it was an intense finish. He is hopeful they can expand for next year’s Lakeland Cup and continue to run a league during the winter.

The FABCA group is a new organization that combined the Bonnyville and Cold Lake chapters together. They also have an additional goal of helping the community through volunteerism and acts of service.
