Quilters wanted to build quilts for Canadian veterans

Quilts of Valour is looking to open a chapter in the Lakeland region. The national organization started in 2006 when a quilter in Edmonton brought Quilts into an Edmonton hospital to three veterans who had just returned from Afghanistan.

It has blossomed from there to over 19000 veterans receiving Quilts!  Quilts and presenters are all volunteers. No two quilts are the same. When the recipient receives a quilt, we wrap it around them and say they are “receiving a HUG from all of Canada as a THANK YOU  for their service and sacrifice to keep all of us safe”.

Recipients need to be nominated by a family member, co-worker or friend.  The criteria to receive a quilt is the military member,  past or present, who are Ill or injured as a result of their service to our country in a combat or peacekeeping mission.  To nominate a veteran or still serving member,  you can do so at quiltsofvalour.ca

The organization recognizes there was a need in Lakeland for volunteer presenters, so Monique MacInnis and Bobbie-jo Clark stepped up. Our first presentation of quilts was Sunday afternoon at 784 Wing in Cold Lake.  They presented seven deserving military members and veterans with their “Quilt of Valour “.
