Dr. Ebisike begins practicing in Elk Point
Elk Point once again has three permanent doctors working in the community.
A new family physician, Dr. Chinedu Ebisike, is now practicing at the Elk Point Healthcare Centre and the Comfort Clinic located at 5334 50 Ave.
In an AHS press release on Tuesday morning, it said that he is accepting new patients and can be reached at the clinic, 780-724-3500, or the healthcare centre at 780-724-3847.
“Each time a physician chooses to work in a rural town, it means a lot to the people who live there,” said David Hanson, MLA for Bonnyville-Cold Lake-St. Paul in the press release. “Rural medicine is a fantastic choice for a family doctor who wants to make a real difference in the lives of not just patients but the entire community.”
Dr. Ebisike comes to AHS from Trinidad, where he worked in emergency departments as well as general medical clinics, providing family medicine outpatient clinical care.
Alberta Health Services said they continue to recruit for physicians across northern Alberta to meet community needs.
Elk Point town council entered into a physician recruitment contract with the doctor following an in-camera discussion at the March 28th meeting.
Dr. Ebisike joins Dr. Olivia Fasola who began practicing in Elk Point in October 2021, and Dr. Adenike Ashaolu who came to the community in May 2019.
The Town of Elk Point and County of St. Paul are hosting a welcoming barbeque for the new physicians on June 20 to allow residents to get to know them a bit more informally.
The BBQ is free and a special invitation has been sent out to the surrounding First Nations and Metis communities who are often served at the Elk Point Healthcare Centre, including Kehewin, Frog Lake, Saddle Lake, Onion Lake, and Fishing Lake Metis Settlement.
It is happening at the Elk Point Eco-Centre, and if there’s rain, the BBQ will go to the AG Ross Arena.
