Ashlin Gymnastics e’xcel’ at Edmonton competition
Ashlin Gymnastics is coming off of one of their most impressive competitions yet.
“We probably took home the most medals that we’ve ever taken home at a championship, as well as ribbons,” Coach Danielle told Lakeland Connect.
At the Xcel Championships in Edmonton, the gymnastics club won 2nd all around in the bronze category, the lowest level of the Excel program, 1st all around in one of the silver age category groups, as well as taking 3rd all around in the gold age category group, which is the second highest level in Xcel in Alberta currently.
She explained that they didn’t even have a ton of time to prepare for the competition.
“Some of them have been doing gymnastics before COVID. Some of them just started after COVID. However, we went through a huge transition when I moved here in December. So the girls have just been starting to train for the championships since January. So they didn’t have a lot of time to prepare.
“They have really taken it to heart that they need to work extremely hard to be able to compete against athletes in the big city, who have a lot of opportunities that we don’t necessarily have here. So they are determined and they come to training every single day. Even though we don’t necessarily have the same facility as the big city and everything, they are able to take everything and persevere through that,” she said.
While the main part of the season is over, their spring season has begun and there are still spots available to enroll your child for the coming months.
“We actually have a couple of spots left in our spring registration pool and you would have just missed one week of classes, so it’s easy to catch up from there. Then where you’re running summer camps all throughout the summer, and each summer camp week has a theme so there’s really cool themes like Weird Science and Bugging Out and we’re also having like special instructors come we’re going to the spray park, so summer camps are going to be a lot of fun for kids.”
