There were some tense moments at 4 Wing Cold Lake back in February after headquarters received a suspicious package.

On February 24, 4 Wing headquarters received a suspicious package and called the military police to investigate.

“As per standard operating procedures, buildings in the surrounding area were evacuated to ensure the safety of 4 Wing personnel,” Captain Rachel Brosseau Public Affairs Officer from 4 Wing Cold Lake said.

The package was confirmed to not be a threat. All buildings were deemed safe to enter and resume activities the same day.

“There were no impacts to the Wing’s air operations including NORAD operations,” Captain Brosseau said.

The Wing has standard operating procedures in place for numerous emergencies.

“Military police along with other essential 4 Wing personnel demonstrated a high level of professionalism and expertise in managing this incident to ensure the safety of 4 Wing and its members,” Captain Brosseau said.

Ironically, the package was found on the same day that Russia invaded Ukraine.
