A True Tourism ‘Corn’erstone – Vegreville Corn Maze Draws Thousands In Second Season

Last Updated: October 21st, 2021By

The second annual edition of the Vegreville Corn Maze wrapped its five-weekend run earlier this month and the early numbers indicate it was another smashing success.

The maze averaged about 500 visitors each Saturday and Sunday from September 11 through October 10, amassing about 5,000 total guests – beating last year’s total of 3,200 attendees over four weekends.

This year, visitors travelled from all over the region, including Edmonton, Leduc, Bonnyville, Lloydminster and beyond.

Revenue generated from gate admissions will now to be dispersed to the local volunteer and non-profit groups that assisted with maze operations while the venue itself allowed an opportunity for those same, plus several other groups, to raise funds by running the concession and conducting other on-site fundraisers.

“While numbers are still preliminary, the Vegreville Corn Maze generated approximately $20,000 for our local non-profits,” Anya Langkow, Coordinator, Town of Vegreville Tourism, Recreation & Culture said. “We’re extremely proud of how the second annual edition of the maze turned out and how this attraction has proven to be an asset for the community in general.  Given that its the perfect shoulder-season tourism draw for the region and assists our local non-profits in generating funds, I can say we’re already looking ahead to next year. Its a true win-win for everyone.”

Langkow says the Vegreville Corn Maze would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of the Vegreville Corn Maze Committee and the over eighteen non-profit groups that assisted in maze day operations.

These include the Alberta Brain Injury Network, CIBC Run for the Cure, Shawna Semeniuk and the Decorating Committee, Kinette Club of Vegreville, Perogies & Jam, Rotary Club of Vegreville, Rotary Interact Club, Vegreville Centennial Library, Vegreville Christmas Bureau, Vegreville Colony, Vegreville Community Daycare, Vegreville Fire Department, Vegreville Food Bank, Vegreville Iron Runners Car Club, Vegreville Minor Soccer Association, Vegreville Preschool Association, and VVA – Vegreville Visual Artists, as well as the local business community that offered support and the countless other groups and individuals that assisted this year.
