Saik Insurance Services Ltd.-The Co-operators have made a generous donation to the St. Paul Jr. Canadiens Alumni Foundation.

On Saturday, September 4, Shawn Saik presented a donation of $40,000 live on Lakeland Connect to the St. Paul Jr. Canadiens Alumni Foundation securing them as a marquee partner for the Montreal Canadiens Alumni event which will be held in St. Paul on February 5.

Patrick Lamoureux is the President of the St. Paul Jr. Canadiens Alumni Foundation.

“These funds will be used to offset the cost in hosting the Montreal Canadiens Alumni, provide club players scholarships and non-athletic scholarships that will be distributed in the regional area schools, and a donation to KidSport St. Paul,” Lamoureux said. “Details on our scholarship programs will be announced in the weeks ahead.”

The funds will also graciously help with the St. Paul Junior Canadiens Alumni Foundation events that are planned for the future.

“Donations allow our organization to make the game about more than just what happens on the ice,” Lamoureux said. “The St. Paul Jr. Canadiens Alumni Foundation has worked to create a variety of initiatives to make a difference in their community while educating about and developing minor hockey.”

One event which is planned is an Alumni game with NHL Indigenous Alumni where former players of the St. Paul Jr. Canadiens will face off against former Indigenous NHL stars.

“We are inviting all St. Paul Jr. Canadiens Indigenous Alumni Players that have worn the red, white, and blue to participate in an Alumni game with NHL Indigenous Alumni,” Lamoureux said. “Please share this with all Indigenous Alumni members.”

The St. Paul Jr. Canadiens Indigenous Alumni game will be held on October 16, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Clancy Richard Arena in St. Paul. The player registration fee is $100 and includes a souvenir St. Paul Jr. Canadiens Alumni Jersey and the opportunity to play a game with NHL players. The registration deadline is October 8, 2021.

Volunteers needed for a club with great history

Founders Clancy Richard and Pat O’Neill connected the team with the Montreal Canadiens in the 1950s and created an affiliate program where the St. Paul Jr. Canadiens would develop young players and provide opportunities for them to be scouted and overseen by the Montreal Canadiens.

The proud organization is steeped in history, with over 65 years and 1500 players competing in the North Eastern Alberta Junior B Hockey League. Over the years the CH on the front of the jerseys has become a symbol of community spirit and pride in players, coaches, and fans alike.

With the team being located in Treaty 6 Territory, there is also a rich history of First Nations and Métis relationships to be recognized and the St. Paul Jr. Canadiens see hockey as a path to reconciliation and the acknowledgment of their amazing First Nations Players.

The St. Paul Jr. Canadiens are more than just a hockey team and focus on developing their players to make an impact both on the ice and in their community and they need your help.

“Folks, we see great things for the club, the Alumni Foundation, and the greater St. Paul community,” Lamoureux said. “We kindly ask for your involvement beyond the financial needs which we understand will take time to build out. We are looking for volunteers, ambassadors, and advocates to support the events planned and beyond. If you are unsure how you can get involved, please feel free to call, email me, any of the Alumni or Club board members.”

Lakeland Connect will bring you more information about the Montreal Canadiens Alumni event which will be held in St. Paul on February 5 as the date approaches.
