Good news for Elk Point residents, the Elk Point Health Centre temporary bed closures has now been reopened.

According to a memorandum by Alberta Health Services, the beds in the centre reopen today.

Cindy Harmata is the Senior Operating Officer for Areas5-8 for the AHS North zone.

“We are pleased to inform you that the five beds at the Elk Point Healthcare Centre temporarily closed on June 7 as a result of staff shortages will reopen on July 7,” Harmata said. “We are excited that the Elk Point Healthcare Centre will return to its full complement of 12 acute care patient beds well ahead of the anticipated Aug 31 date.”

Harmata says she would like thank residents for their understanding while AHS worked through this temporary closure which allowed them to ensure that AHS provided safe and high quality health care to their patients and a quality work environment for staff.

“AHS continues to look for solutions and we are actively recruiting to address the remaining staffing needs at the facility,” Harmata concluded.
