A teacher with the Lakeland Catholic School Division was suspended recently after alleged sexual misconduct involving a student.

Amanda Wildman is the Communications Officer with Lakeland Catholic School Division and released a statement from Chantel Axani Principal of Assumption Jr. / Sr. High School.

“Normally I do not write about personnel matters regarding our school. However, today I would like to share with the families of students of Assumption Jr./Sr. High School that a teacher from the school, Mr. Morrison, has been criminally charged in relation to an incident allegedly involving a student,”  Chantel Axani Principal of Assumption Jr. / Sr. High School said in a letter to parents after Lakeland Connect inquired about the situation from an anonymous tip.

“Out of respect for the privacy of the student and the student’s family, we are not providing details of the allegations,” Axani said. “However, I wish to inform you that once the School became aware of the allegations, the teacher was immediately removed from the class and suspended pending the outcome of an investigation, which Lakeland Catholic School Division immediately commenced upon learning of the allegations.”

Lakeland Connect has learned from a concerned parent that James Morrison, at Assumption Jr/Sr High School, may have set up cameras in a room where drama kids would change. It is alleged that a student found images of a student on his computer.

The school has not confirmed or denied if the suspension was for sexual misconduct.

“I wish to assure parents that student safety and well-being is our top priority at Assumption Junior Senior High School. I felt it important to communicate with you to assure every parent and student of this, I cannot comment on the ongoing criminal investigation, however in the event you have questions, may we ask you to address the same with the RCMP. As always, the School Division is cooperating with the RCMP in this matter,” Axani said.

Lakeland Connect has reached out to the RCMP for more information we are waiting to hear back from them.
