Regional Director of Emergency Management: Cautious optimism; remember to not be complacent

Since my last report from over a week ago, I am very pleased to report that we have seen another  reduction in active COVID-19 case counts within our region. Currently we sit at 354 total cases, with 50 being active, and 303 recovering. Sadly, as reported by Alberta Health Services, we have experienced 1  death within the region. My heartfelt condolences to family and friends mourning this loss. 

I am cautiously optimistic with the decline in our active cases over the last week. It is important to note  that part of this decline has been due to less people getting tests over the holiday break, however, it is  encouraging to see the decline knowing that our collective actions which began two weeks ago has had  an impact. Seeing these lower numbers is definitely a good sign, but it is important to also remember to  not become complacent. Make sure you practice proper physical distancing, wear a mask and continue  to frequently wash your hands.

Let’s all finish the year strong and healthy by continuing to following all public health orders and measures  that are currently in place. The New Year holds a lot of promise and optimism as vaccines continue to  roll-out in the coming days and weeks ahead.
