Cornerstone Co-op rolls out 3rd Annual Community Caring program
Cornerstone Co-op’s Vermilion Pharmacy and St. Paul Food Store are hosting Community Caring until December 15.
The program involves selecting an ornament from the store location complete with a recipient and their request, purchasing a gift for a local senior, and returning it to the store location in a gift bag with the tag.
“It’s a fabulous program supporting our legacy members,” said Heather MacMillan, Cornerstone Co-op’s community engagement coordinator.
“One of the reasons we see it being so successful is that it provides an opportunity for parents to teach their children about community giving.”
Residents have come to look forward to this program in Vermilion supporting residents of Vermilion Valley Lodge, and it is the first year for it to be launched in St. Paul, supporting residents of Sunnyside Manor.
Cornerstone Co-op plans to continue expanding the program and hope to extend it to Wainwright next year.
Gifts are to be no more than $20 in a gift bag (non-wrapped) with the tag attached. Requests include items such as calendars, slippers, socks, or puzzle books.
“The seniors have been largely affected this year and I hope this provides a ray of sunshine and serves as a reminder that people are still thinking of them,” said MacMillan.
