Fork Lake campground much busier this summer
As of September 28, Fork Lake Campground is now closed, but they had one of their busiest seasons yet.
The campground had a 48 per cent increase in visitors this year compared to last year, even though the season started off with some set backs.
“The season did start off with a lot of rain, this didn’t deter most campers. They still roughed it out despite the weather,” said Jihad Moghrabi, Lac La Biche County’s Manager of Communications.
“Overall, we would say the season was a great success. The campground was at nearly full or at full capacity every weekend. In fact, we had 48 per cent more campers at Fork Lake than last year.”
With many events and attractions unable to run, so camping was one of the only forms of recreation residents were able to do.
Although camping is an outdoor activity, Fork Lake Campground still had to follow public health guidelines, and put certain precautions in place so that everyone could stay safe this camping season.
“Due to COVID-19, we installed more signage, set sanitizing standards, and monitored amenities more closely,” said Moghrabi.
“Campers kept their distance from one another and followed the rules. We appreciated their understanding and cooperation.”
