Annual Canada Day fireworks will be cancelled due to COVID-19 in Lac La Biche

Lac La Biche County has announced that they will be forgoing the annual fireworks show on Canada Day due to COVID-19 regulations.

As it stands, the Government of Alberta will not allow more than 100 people at any outdoor event at this time. This is to continue to help mitigate the spread of the virus, and to protect our vulnerable populations.

“We understand that residents were looking forward to the fireworks, and I know that it’s disappointing to see a cancellation when many other programs, services, and events are relaunching,” said Jihad Moghrabi, the Communication Manager for the Lac La Biche County.

“However, we’re committed to following the Government of Alberta’s relaunch regulations. The County unfortunately had to make the difficult decision to cancel this year’s fireworks because the attendance numbers wouldn’t be in line with those regulations.”

There is a chance that the County will reschedule if there are any changes to COVID-19 regulations that would allow more people at outdoor events.

“Depending on when regulations ease or lift, we might be able to plan an alternative event in the future,” said Moghrabi.
