A volunteer combines crops this November in an effort to fight hunger overseas.

The Northeast Growing Project, a group of volunteers who plant crops every year to send overseas have figured out their total donation for 2019.

In 2019, the growing project raised $43,500 to send to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, exceeding their initial estimate of $30,000.

That is matched four times by the Canadian government, meaning $174,000 will go overseas to fight world hunger.

Chairman for the Northeast Growing Project, Terry Shenher, thanked everyone for donating to the project and to the farmers and for supplying equipment.

He also thanked the Bonnyville Pentecostal Church for purchasing their shovel for 2019.

The Northeast Growing Project farms 120 acres west of Fort Kent and has raised over $540,000 in the 20-plus years of existence with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank.
