SPERD releases Accountability Pillar Summary with overall improvements

The results of diploma (Grade 12) and provincial achievement tests (Grades 6 & 9) are reported annually by Alberta Education in the Overall Accountability Pillar Summary. Alberta Education also administers surveys to parents, students, and teachers in Grades 4, 7, and 10.

The 2019 Accountability Pillar Overall Summary can be viewed on the Division website under Documents>Reports>Annual Reports>AERR Summary 2018.2019.

As a Division we have a lot to celebrate and we are proud of the work of our students and staff. St. Paul Education’s overall results have shown steady improvement over the past several years.

As they do every year, school administration teams will be reviewing their individual school results with staff, School Council and senior administration. Please contact your child’s principal if you have further questions about your school’s results.

 

The major categories reported in the Accountability Pillar Overall Summary are:

  1. Safe and Caring Schools
  2. Student Learning Opportunities
  3. Student Learning Achievement (Grades k-9)
  4. Student Learning Achievement (Grades 10-12)
  5. Preparation for Lifelong Learning, World of Work, Citizenship
  6. Parental Involvement
  7. Continuous Improvement

 

Major categories are broken down into specific measures with three evaluation scores indicating the following:

  • Achievement (current year data)
  • Improvement (current year data compared to previous 3-year average)
  • Overall (combines Achievement and Improvement scores)

 

1. Safe and Caring Schools

Safe and Caring – percentage of teacher, parent and student agreement that: students are safe at school, are learning the importance of caring for others, are learning respect for others, and are treated fairly in school.

Division overall score moved from 86.9% to 86.7%

2. Student Learning Opportunities

Program of Studies – percentage of teachers, parents and students satisfied with the opportunity for students to receive a broad program of studies including fine arts, career, technology, and health and physical education

Division overall score improved from 76.9% to 77.6%

Education Quality – percentage of teachers, parents and students satisfied with the overall quality of basic education.

Division overall score moved from 90% to 89.7% Drop-Out Rate
Division overall score moved from 1.6% to 3.2%

High School Completion (3 yr.) – percentage of students in the Grade 10 cohort who have completed by the end of their third year

Division overall score stayed the same at 79.7%

3. Student Learning Achievement (Grades 6 & 9)

PAT: Acceptable – percentage of students achieving the acceptable standard

Overall score improved from 63.9% to 68.7%

PAT: Excellence – percentage of students achieving the standard of excellence

Overall score improved from 13.4% to 14.7%

Overall, provincial achievement test results:

  • are consistent with or exceed provincial results at the acceptable standard in ELA 6, ELA 9 K & E, FLA 9, Math 9 K & E, and Science 9 K & E.
  • are consistent with or exceed provincial results at the standard of excellence in Science 9 K & E.
  • are near or slightly below provincial results at the acceptable level (within 5% of the province) in Science 6, Science 9, And Social Studies 9 K & E.
  • are near or slightly below provincial results at the standard of excellence (within 5% of the province) in FLA 9, Math 6, Math 9, Math 9 K & E, and Science 9.

 

4. Student Learning Achievement (Grades 10 – 12)

Diploma: Acceptable – percentage of students achieving the acceptable standard

Overall score moved from 79.2% to 77.5%

Diploma: Excellence – percentage of students achieving the standard of excellence

Overall score moved from 17.8% to 16.0%

Overall, diploma results:

  • are consistent with or exceed provincial results at the acceptable standard in English 30-1, ELA 30- 2, And Physic 30
  • are consistent with or exceed provincial results at the standard of excellence in no subjects
  • are near or slightly below provincial results at the acceptable standard (within 5% of the province) in Social Studies 30-1
  • are near or slightly below provincial results at the standard of excellence (within 5% of the province) in English 30-2, Math 30-2, and Physics 30
  • are below provincial results at the acceptable standard (more than 5% below the province) in Social Studies 30-2, Math 30-1, Math 30-2, Biology 30, Chemistry 30 and Science 30
  • are below provincial results at the standard of excellence (more than 5% below the province) in English 30-1, Social 30-1, Social 30-2, Math 30-1, Biology 30, Chemistry 30, Physics 30, and Science 30

Diploma Exam Participation Rate (4+ Exams) Overall score moved from 44.5% to 39.8%

Overall score moved from 61.3% to 57.9%

5. Preparation for Lifelong Learning, World of Work, Citizenship

Transition Rate (6 yr.) – percentage of students going on to post-secondary studies within 6 years of graduation

Division overall score stayed the same at 47.9%

Work Preparation – percentage of teachers and parents who agree that students are taught attitudes and behaviors that will make them successful at work when they finish school

Division overall score moved from 81.9% to 80.4%

Citizenship – percentage of teachers, parents and students who are satisfied that students model the characteristics of active citizenship

Division overall score improved from 79.8% to 80.2%

6. Parental Involvement

Parental Involvement – percentage of teachers and parents satisfied with parental involvement in decision about their child’s education

Division overall score improved from 76.2% to 78.4%

7. School Improvement

School Improvement – percentage of teachers, parents and students indicating that their school and schools in their jurisdiction have improved or stayed the same the last three years

Division overall score moved from 84.3% to 81.3%
