Cold Lake vehicle theft results in charges
A 29-year-old is facing nine counts after stealing a vehicle in Cold Lake earlier this week.
On March 5, 2019, at approximately 3:00 PM RCMP in Cold Lake received a 911 call reporting the current theft of a white work van from Cold Lake North.
Members attended immediately and shortly after located the stolen vehicle as it was underway, said the RCMP.
The suspect drove around in circles through residential neighbourhoods in Cold Lake North and RCMP did not engage the suspect until the vehicle was in a safe rural location.
Although the suspect maintained a relatively slow speed, he did not stop for police and ultimately got stuck in a ditch by the Municipal Airport, said the RCMP.
Although he appeared to be under the extreme influence of drugs, he was taken into custody without further incident.
Warren Johannesen-Quail, 29 years of age, of no fixed address, has been charged with nine counts pursuant to the Criminal Code of Canada including:
• Theft of a motor vehicle
• Breaching a recognizance X 4
• Breach of probation X 2
• Criminal flight from police
• Operate a motor vehicle while suspended
Further investigation is ongoing in relation to the suspect being impaired while operating a motor vehicle.
