Around the Junior B: St. Paul split and T-Birds lose pair
The St. Paul Canadiens will finish 4th in the NEAJBJL, all that’s left to determine is their opponent in the first round of the playoffs.
The Canadiens defeated the Lloydminster Bandits 5-1 on Friday on neutral ice in Marwayne.
Five different Habs lit the lamp in the victory: Tison Young, Arron Gagne Orrie Wood, Brayden Goulet, and Peter Blomberg.
However, they didn’t fare as well against Lac la Biche Clippers as Jared Smith scored ten seconds into the game, and the Clippers continued their great season with a 4-1 win.
A couple Canadiens earned honours this week from the NEAJBHL.
Alex Astasiewicz was named the best defenseman for the 2018-18 season and picked up a first team all-star nod.
Forward Zach Bendall was named to the second all-star team.
The Canadiens will either play Cold Lake or Lloydminster in the first round of the playoffs.
Frog Lake T-Birds struggling
Tyrone Potts scored a minute and a half into the game, but a lacklustre second period where Vegreville found three goals gave the Rangers the advantage and a 6-3 win.
It counts as the second win of the season for the Rangers.
The T-Birds have been struggling in the new year after a rash of players left the squad earlier this month.
They hosted the Lac la Biche Clippers last night and fell 13-6.
They are currently on a seven game losing streak.
Frog Lake sits 8th in the NEAJBHL and will either face Wainwright or Lac la Biche in the first round of playoffs.
