Bonnyville town councillor will sit on fine arts society committee

Bonnyville town councillor Brian McEvoy will sit as a member of the Bonnyville and District Fine Arts Society’s location committee which is searching for a new theatre.

This was after the fine arts society invited a town councillor to sit on their location committee.

Town council decided to proceed after Brian McEvoy volunteered to do the job at last Tuesday’s town council meeting.

“The Bonnyville and District Fine Arts Society has spent the last year raising funds for the development of a new theatre for Bonnyville and District with considerable support from businesses, community organization and many performers who have developed in the Bonnyville area. We have not as yet found a site for a new theatre. We would to issue an invitation for a Bonnyville Town Councilor to sit as a member of our Location Committee as we continue to work towards this goal,” said Patricia Perry, president of the society, in a letter sent to the town on Dec. 6.

When given the same invitation, the Municipal District of Bonnyville chose to decline at their regular council meeting last Wednesday.

The society has been holding fundraising shows for a new theatre fund throughout 2018.

Most notably, they hosted Clayton Bellamy and the Roadhammers along with FKB and Carmen Lucia on Nov. 2.
