Keeping it fun for everyone
Micro Novice Avalanche prepare to play
Tales from the Timebox: November 27th, 2018
At the Micro Novice level it’s very hard to keep the kids focused on playing the game on the ice. Lots of them are more interested in stopping and greeting people they know in the stands. Or wondering what kind of treats will be waiting for them from their grandparents after the game. It takes a ton of patience coaching the Tom Thumbs. With that being said, the coaching staff of Ryan Hahn, Aaron Aarbo and Poncho St. Arnault are doing a terrific job. The kids are still learning how to skate and concentrate on the game. Even with all the other distractions, some of these little guys are really starting to pick it up.
The Micro Novice Avalanche traveled to St. Paul early Saturday morning and really played well. Stetson ‘the Renowned’ Reynolds scoring the first goal of his career, assisted by his cousin Tor ‘the Tornado’ Aarbo and ‘Mount Everett’ Hahn. I hope his parents saved this puck to put this one up on the shelf!
Then the veteran, Lennox ‘All Out’ St. Arnault, would score his first of the year, assisted by ‘General Lee’ Barstad and Zander ‘Zorro’ Goertzen. Getting involved on all of the plays, Hudson the ‘Roadster’ Krankowsky was the strongest player on the ice, he was forechecking and backchecking like crazy. Jaydn the ‘Spectacular’ Sakowsky while doing the goaltending duties was stretched out from post to post . Nothing was getting past him.
Novice Avalanche
The parking lot was full when our Novice played a full ice game against Marwayne/Dewberry on Sunday. They won 11-6. Starting the game with a natural hat trick ‘Wild Wyatt’ Fontaine. He would also get an assist later on one of the goals by the long legged ‘Smitty’ Jaxon Smith who also scored a hat trick and had an assist too. Two goals for Denys ‘the Menace’ Kuba. Kestyn Quinney with one goal and one assist. Theo ‘Long Horn’ Loughran and his sidekick William ‘Billy Bob’ Ballas both finding the twine with one goal each and both assisted on one as well. Two assists for ‘Major Tom’ Melnyk. ‘Jesse James’ Penner with an assist. Between the pipes in his goaltending debut, Jackson ‘J. R.’ Rawlake was a real standout in this one.
Midget Avalanche
A big disappointment for the parents, grandparents, players and especially the timekeeper who came out Sunday all set to watch a Midget hockey game. Our Midget Avalanche were supposed to play Bonnyville at home at 2:00 pm, but there seemed to be a communication break down between the league schedules. Bonnyville had the game starting at 5:00 pm when a lot of the people involved, including the referees had other commitments. The game is to be rescheduled at a later date.
Atom Avalanche
The Atom Avalanche traveled to Bonnyville on Saturday afternoon, coming home with a big 7-3 win. A strong game for Kaysen ‘Dynamite’ DeMossiac who exploded for a hat trick. With a bite as big as his bark, Madden ‘Mad Dog’ Flamand getting off his leash for two goals. Getting the green light and breaking into the offensive zone D Man Braylee ‘Little Willy’ Lesyk with a goal, he also added two assists. Brendan ‘Buzz Saw’ Kadutski with goal as well. ‘Without a Trace’ Morgan and ‘Boe Dog’ St George adding assists.
Peewee Avalanche
The Peewee Avalanche came up against some tough competition up in Cold Lake on Sunday losing to the Ice 4-1. Brayden ‘Pinball ‘ Pinette with the only goal for the Avalanche assisted by Brendon Haesch.
Out of town players
Over in the female Bantam league, two of our local girls playing for the Lakeland Jaguars had a very good weekend winning on Saturday against two of the toughest teams in the league. Defeating one of the Lloydminster bantam teams on Saturday and then again on Sunday winning against another of the Lloydminster’s teams.
Rylee ‘the Rocket’ Warawa with an assist in the game on Saturday and a goal and an assist in Sunday game. Versatile Jadey ‘the Lady’ Capjack who plays on the wing and center and sometimes back on defense was named the player of the game on Saturday. Also playing in the female Midget league former Storm player Jenna ‘Precious’ Poitras is one of the best penalty killers on the newly formed Dewberry Wild team. The Wild are off to a great start to the season with a 3 and 1 record.
Over in the Peewee AA league we have two of our local boys playing for Lakeland on their number one top line. Cash ‘Paycheque’ Capjack scored two goals in a 6-2 win on Sunday over Lloydminster. His line mate ‘King Kong Konnor ‘ Poitras setting him up. ‘King Kong’ had been playing defense to start this year, but has been deadly lately since playing up front with his old Avalanche teammate.
Congrats to local athletes
Congratulations going out to the FG Miller high school boys volleyball team on winning the Provincial Gold medal. And to our local boys playing for the St Paul Lions football team who won the Provincial Silver up in Fort Mac on Friday night.
And now for the K. A. Campbell quote of the week. ” If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself.” – Henry Ford
