Attempted theft of copper wire from power pole

On December 22nd, ATCO Electric received a fire call to one of their power poles in the rural Municipal District of Bonnyville area. It appeared as though someone had attempted to steal copper wire from the power pole, explains Constable Wanda Decoste with the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment.

“They figure this person had sustained some serious injuries and would have seeked medical attention,” there was no person who had gone to the hospital with injuries consistent to this type of attempted theft. The suspect was never located. “That’s quite something to go to an active power pole and attempt to steal from it.”

RCMP advise the public not to touch or attempt to remove anything from power poles or lines. This type of mischief can cause serious and deadly injuries. Anyone with information on the attempted theft is asked to contact the Bonnyville Detachment at 780-343-7200.
