SNOW REMOVAL POLICY AND SNOW CLEANING ROUTES

The Town of Bonnyville’s Snow Removal Policy & Snow Cleaning Routes:

We all want to see our Town streets cleared of snow quickly, but nothing slows down snow plows like cars left sitting on the road.  When snow route signs are placed on residential streets indicating “No Parking – Snow Route”, vehicle owners must not park or allow their vehicles to remain parked on the street 24 hours after the sign has been placed.  If the vehicle is still parked after 24 hours, this may result in a minimum $40 fine and removal of the vehicle at the owner’s expense, which includes tow and impound.

Snow is cleared in this order when there is snowfall and all roads are passable:
1.  Airport and Emergency Routes

  1. Business Sections, School Zones and Routes
  2. Arterial and Collector Roads
  3. Residential Roadways
  4. Emergency Service Sites
  5. Municipal Facilities
  6. Lanes

SNOW REMOVAL REMINDERS

Sidewalk Clearing

A few simple measures can make it safer to walk outdoors in the winter.  Removing snow and ice, and putting sand or salt on areas where people walk make a big difference.  Property owners, occupants and tenants are responsible for the removal of snow and ice from the portions of the sidewalk adjacent to their property.  For the safe enjoyment and movement of pedestrian traffic on Town streets, the Town of Bonnyville Community Standards Bylaw requires residents to have sidewalks cleared within forty-eight hours after the last snowfall.  Residents who contravene this bylaw may be subject to a fine of $100 and be responsible for any costs required to clean the sidewalk.

IMPORTANT – RE:  FIRE HYDRANTS

Fire departments lose precious time finding hydrants hiding under snow, when seconds count.  Residents and businesses are strongly encouraged to clear the snow away from the fire hydrants near their property.

ADDITIONALLY – AT ANY TIME OF THE YEAR

In any area of the Town, vehicles are not permitted to be left parked on the road for a period of more than 72 hours.  After 72 hours, a parking violation may result in a minimum $40.00 fine and removal of the vehicle at the owner’s expense, which includes tow and impound.

It is your responsibility to ensure that your vehicle(s) do not impede snow clearing by Town vehicles.
