The Assumption Crusaders Six-Man Football team was on the road again this past week. The Crusaders faced the Redwater Renegades. The game was a high-scoring affair that the Crusaders won. Final score was 64-42.

Crusaders get important victory

The 64-42 victory for the Crusaders kept score keepers in Redwater busy. You may remember earlier in the year, when the Crusaders were at home and found themselves down large early. That game was also a big game on the board for both teams involved. This game was a bit different, as the Crusaders found themselves up 30-0 early.

This time it was Redwater that rallied to make things interesting. Redwater got within one touchdown at one point. Despite the game getting tight, the young Crusaders squad handled the pressure. They managed to score on their subsequent drives to break away from the tight score. From that point the Crusaders never looked back. The game played to a 64-42 Crusaders final, but for a couple moments could have been turned on it’s head.

Game factors

Assumption got large contributions from their core guys like Bryce Ruel, and Josh Gardner in the game. First year player Jacob Ratkovic also starred in the victory. The Crusaders improved to a nice 4-1 on the season. Crusaders Head Coach Sahyne Midford knows complacency, and turnovers played a factor in the game getting close again.

“It was a little nerve racking as the boys got complacent, and had a lack of focus once they went up big early. Too many turnovers late gave Redwater opportunities to make it a game which they rallied behind. We must play the full 48 in our next game.” Coach Midford explains.

 Next up

The Crusaders will have a week off before heading to Edmonton. Assumption will face Millwoods Christian in a huge game for both sides.
