The zone reaches from Vegreville to Fort McMurray to Lloydminster, and everything in-between.  The race had multiple routes around the Muriel Lake MD Campground.  Many coaches, and volunteers on hand described the weather as perfect for a race. The races took all day, and enjoy a full day of competition. Lots of Lakeland kids came away with medals, or provincial berths.

“It’s a good race, we have about 200 kids. It took set up yesterday, the [M.D. of Bonnyville] allowed us access to the campground… It’s really a good team effort. It’s our districts turn for this event. This year was our turn to do it, and we’re happy to do it in Bonnyville.” Organizer Paul Bourgoin says.

Results

There were seven race categories for the zones competition. Student ages ranged from 15-18 years old. Below are the top three finishes for each category.

Community

Bourgoin says the races couldn’t have been completed without a full community effort. The M.D. of Bonnyville peace officers offered their services for parking buses as the event began. Ecole Des Beaux Lacs provided the concession in support of their volleyball team. Coaches, and representatives from all schools pitched in as time keepers, and other various positions. Dales Rentals provided the portable toilets.

Team Winners

Each runner for each team earns points towards their teams standing for each school category. Below are the results for the team standings.

Outcome

The top 18 finishes from each of the categories move onto provincials. Provincials will take place in Edmonton on Saturday, October 21. The Lakeland will be well represented in Edmonton next weekend.
