Both the peewee ‘A’ boys and peewee girls teams participated in Alberta Lacrosse provincials this weekend. The tournament was hosted in scorching hot Lethbridge.
Peewee ‘A’ Boys
The Lakeland team featured players outside of the traditional boundaries of the Lakeland Lacrosse Association. The team was a broad representation of the greater Wheatland Lacrosse Association. This year’s team managed to capture a bronze, and used the provincial stage to help plan for next season.
“We put a team together to challenge the two city teams. Usually all there is in ‘A’ league are Edmonton and Calgary. The test was to see how we would do.” Coach BJ Pinch says, “The kids I thought played their better lacrosse in the short amount of time we had together… We’ve only had this team together for four practices and a tournament in Calgary.”
The Peewee girls were in their second appearance at provincials. They faced two teams, one based out of Calgary and one based out of Edmonton. They dropped both decisions, but did the chance to take home a bronze medal.
“We did improve over last year… [Next year] is very, very positive. Next year we hope to get between Lakeland and Wheatland we hope to get a peewee and bantam girls team formed.” Assitant Coach Rod Pettigrew says.
