Junior B Heat Cruise to Victory Over Vermilion Roar
After an extended break, the Lakleand Junior B Heat returned to action on Wednesday. It was a statement game for the Heat, who won 12-3. This is the Cave Inspections Post-Game Report. The opponent for the Heat was their division rival Vermilion Roar.
First Period Dominance
The Heat came out with a strong effort in the first period. Blake Smith scored the opening goal less than four minutes into the game. Justin Hodinsky and Donovan Bibeau picked up assists on the goal. The game remained 1-0 for over ten minutes. Justin Hodinsky scored the 2-0 goal with 5:56 to go in the first. Smith and Taras Hodinsky added goals late, and the Heat headed to the dressing room up 4-0.
By a Touchdown
The Junior B Heat continued to roll early in the second period. Two minutes in Ethan Brown scored the 5-0 goal on the powerplay, after Hayden Protsch took a high sticking call. At the halfway mark of the period, Cole Kulcyzcki made it a touchdown margin. David McRae netted the only goal of the period for the Roar. It was 6-1 after the second.
Junior B Heat Put it to Bed
The Roar opened the third period with a goal from their captain Colby Bowman. With the game in their grasp, the Heat tightened their grip in the third. Donovan Bibeau scored the only goal for the Heat in the early going at 15:10. The Junior B Heat would another as Jayden Stratychuk picked up a pass from Donovan Bibeau and put it home. The Roar answered back merely six seconds after the Stratychuk goal. Once again, Bowman put it in the net. At this point it was an 8-3 game for the Heat. The Heat offense found their legs in the final six minutes, as they put up four goals to close it out. Blake Smith, Tyson Coles, Donovan Bibeau and Cole Kulcyzcki all struck late.
“Our defense was really the difference. Our defense played really solid. We didn’t allow them to take a lot good quality shots.” Daryl Hodinsky, Heat Assistant Coach said. “Allan Wareham was our MVP of the game, he played good solid defense and twice guys from vermilion wanted to fight him, but he was all about playing lacrosse.”
The final was 12-3 for the Lakeland Junior B Heat. They will be back home on May 31, when they face the Lloydminster Xtreme. The Heat stay undefeated on the season with Wednesday’s win.
