Cold Lake Bantam Ice Head to A Provincials
Maeson Stabbler secures game winner in Double OT to send Ice to Provincials
The Cold Lake Bantam Teir 1 Ice defeated Lac La Biche in double overtime over the weekend to secure a spot in the A Provincials. Lead by coach Bob Fraser the team fought a hard battle against Lac La Biche.
The back and forth battle ended with a tie after 60 minutes, thanks to a goal from assistant captain, of the Ice, Maeson Stabbler, forcing extra time up on the clock. Round one of OT came and went without a decision. With true intensity, the Ice started the second round of overtime, determined to get out of the battle with a goal. Once again it was Stabbler with the glory, putting one deep in the back of Lac La Biche’s net, sending the Ice to Provincials.
The tournament will be held in Grande Prairie March 16-19th, 2017, but the Ice won’t have time to rest. The team is engaged in round 1 of the league playoffs. Tonight the Ice welcome Bonnyville to Cold Lake for game 1. Game 2 will be held in Bonnyville on Wednesday. The Ice finished first in the league with a record of 17-3-0.
