Edmonton Man Arrested

UPDATE:

Smoky Lake RCMP pulled over a vehicle just after 11:00 pm on Friday January 13th, for impaired driving. During the traffic stop, police discovered the driver of the vehicle, a 54 year old man, from Edmonton, matched the description of the armed robbery suspect, from Bonnyville. Police also learned, through investigation, that the gun used in the robbery was a fake.

54 year old Jean Marc Viau of Edmonton is charged with 5 counts including Robbery with a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Using an Imitation Firearm in the commission of an Indictable Offence, Utter a Death Threat and Driving while Disqualified. He will appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court on January 17th for these matters. Viau is further charged by Smoky Lake RCMP with Impaired Driving, Failing to Provide a Breath Sample and Driving while Disqualified and is due to appear in Court for those matters on January 19th.

BACKGROUND:

Lakeland Connect is hearing that just after 9:00 pm on Friday, January 13th, the Red Rooster in Bonnyville was robbed at gunpoint.
