The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Storm Warnings: December 13th, 2016
No matter what you say, normally this team has heart. And lots of it. Heart can’t replace talent and skill but its up there, and talent and skill will take you no where if you don’t have heart. You can have all the tools of the trade, BUT you still need a desire to use them!!
The Storm bantam girls team came out full strength on Saturday, 12 skaters and a goalie; up in Cold Lake for the first time in five games and this should have made a difference giving everyone just a little bit of a breather on the bench. It worked for the first period, they came out strong, the Storm only down 3 to 0 after the first 20 minutes. But in the second period the floodgates opened, the Storm came out of the dressing room more like a gentle summer breeze than a Storm!! Just about zero effort from most of the players. The final score wasn’t pretty. In fact, it was down right ugly!
Halle ‘ Comet’ Stybel named the player of the game. She did give 100 percent but we needed some effort from the rest of the team. ‘ Comet ‘ is only peewee aged but she’s a very strong and determined girl especially when she carries the puck and sees a opening to the net. She will push hard to get there, running over players and sometimes with a few of the opposition riding on her back.
Nothing like shaking off a bad loss and not dwell on it. Sunday at home it was just like night and day. The girls must have had a good sleep and some good food to eat. The whole team played really well, for-checking, dumping and chasing, keeping the pressure on, back-checking, blocking shots, clearing the front of the net, chipping the puck out of our zone, just like they had learned in practise. Best game of the year for the whole team. Defence woman Jace ‘ Jackhammer’ Weidmark was named the Storm Trooper of the game. The hard -nosed grinder Jace was all over the place!! Carried the puck out of the zone, holding the line, got shots from the point on net, back checking hard, clearing the front of the net, doing an absolute terrific job on the blueline.
And now for the K. A Campbell quote of the week. ‘Difficulties in life are intended to make us better, not bitter.’- Dan Reeves
