The Cold Lake Jr B Ice hosted the second place Wainwright Bison Saturday at Imperial Oil Place to an upsetting decision in front of the home crowd. Head Coach Scott Hood said of the performance, “you gotta make your breaks and work hard.”

The Bison came out firing with an early goal from their top scorer,  Tyler Fischer at 3:03 in the first. Fischer would go on to get a hat trick in the match; which had Dyson Loewen in net for the Ice. Four minutes later Fischer put in his second goal, then followed it up with an assist at 18:13 on  Josh Berg‘s goal to make it a 3-0 game for the Bison after the first.

Fischer’s hat trick goal was put in early in the second, followed by the Ice’s sole goal of the evening, from Jason Hamilton, with the asssist to Coltan Buchta, at 16:55 in the second.

Emotions were fired halfway through the third as a brawl broke out between hometown boys, Chase BrownMackenzie ZarownyGuillaume St-Gelias and Wainwright’s Bryce WoodwardZach HerleJosh BergChandler Klein and Reid Manning.

The Bison’s Chase Fletcher got the fifth and final goal of the evening, for Wainwright, 1:52 in the third. The board would stay the same to for the remaining 18 minutes of play to close the game 5-1 Wainwright.

“We didn’t show up for, really, any of it,” Coach Hood unimpressed with the lack-luster performance by the squad, “we out-worked them for about 12 minutes in the third and gave ourselves a chance; but after that, there was no effort, no emotion from us.”

The Ice welcome the Frog Lake T-Birds to the rink tonight, Sunday at 7:00 pm. Coach Hood says the team is going to have to show up wanting the win, “I need guys who want to play, they have to want to be here. It’s a simple game, it’s not rocket science. We just have to come ready to play. That’s three straight losses, we gotta bounce back and find a way to get another win and get back on track.”
