Smoky Lake RCMP arrest two after theft of vehicle

On Sept. 22, 2016 at approximately 6:30 p.m., Smoky Lake RCMP responded to a call of theft of a motor vehicle at a residence near Waskatenau. A man was returning home and noticed another one of his vehicles was being driven by two occupants. The victim attempted to park in front to prevent the theft but his vehicle was damaged as the two suspects fled the area in his other vehicle. The victim was not injured as a result of the collision.

Members patrolled the area and were able to locate the vehicle on Highway 28. The vehicle that was driven by the suspects was located parked near another vehicle and it is believed an attempted theft of that vehicle was in progress. Both suspects fled on foot but were arrested a short time later.

Marina Dawn Smith, a 27-year-old from Frog Lake was charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Resisting arrest
  • Breach of probation (x3)
  • Theft of vehicle (x2)
  • Theft of trailer
  • Traffic Safety Act – driving without a licence

 

Conrad Tyler Quewezance, a 31-year-old from Calgary was charged with:

  • Theft of vehicle (x2)
  • Theft of trailer
  • Assault with weapon
  • Resist arrest
  • Fail to comply with recognizance (x2)
  • Theft under 5000.00
  • Traffic Safety Act – drive while unauthorized

 

Both were remanded into custody and will appear in Fort Saskatchewan Provincial court on Sept. 29, 2016.

 

As this matter is now before the courts, there will be no further updates in relation to this investigation.
