A Cold Lake Woman Arrested after near traffic accident leads to theft charges

On August 16th, at approximately 5:00 pm, the Cold Lake RCMP Detachment received several complaints of a female falling into traffic, on Highway 28, on the south side of the city, near McDonalds.  RCMP attended the scene and found the female to be intoxicated and with a stolen item on her person. A 40 year old female, from Cold Lake, was arrested. S/Sgt Jeremie Landry, with the Cold Lake RCMP, says there were earlier calls regarding this woman that led police to investigate and determine she had shoplifted from Walmart earlier that day.

“We received a complaint from one of the Humpty’s employees reporting that the same female was at their location. She had stolen items on her and she was waiting for the bus to pick her up near McDonalds” S/Sgt. Landry says it is unclear how the Humpty’s employee knew the items were stolen, but there was a purse recovered from Humpty’s with stolen items in it. The female also had a stolen metallic ring on her hand at the time of her arrest.  “It appears the Humpty’s employee suspected that what she had was stolen. Two and two was put together and RCMP followed up with Walmart. Through video surveillance determined the woman had shoplifted.”

The female was charged with theft under $5000, held until sober and released on a promise to appear in Cold Lake Provincial Court, on September 28th at 10:00.
