Four Youths Charges in Relation to Robbery & Shooting at Police

RCMP would like to advise that four youths who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act have been charged with multiple offences under the Youth criminal Justice Act relating to this incident.

Youth charged relating to this incident are as follows:

  • one male 14 yrs old
  • one female 15 yrs old
  • two males 16 yrs old

 

The firearm that was used in this incident has been recovered. One male is also charged for armed robberies in Cold Lake.

 

A court date has been set for July 18th, 2016 in Lac La Biche. The RCMP would like to thank everyone for their assistance into this matter.

BACKGROUND

On July 11, 2016, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Lac La Biche RCMP were informed that suspects believed to be involved with several armed robberies were travelling from Wandering River towards Lac La Biche in a dark pick-up truck. An RCMP officer was able to locate the vehicle travelling east bound on Highway 55, just outside of Lac La Biche. Within a few minutes of following the pick-up truck, occupants of the vehicle fired a single shot at the RCMP officer’s vehicle, striking the windshield. The member was not injured.

A pursuit was initiated and eventually the suspect vehicle became inoperable. At this time, two of the four passengers of the vehicle were apprehended without incident, approximately twenty kilometres northeast of Lac La Biche. Police searched the area with the assistance of the K-9 unit for the other two occupants. They still remain at large.The firearm used in this incident has not been recovered.
