Vehicle Theft Ends in Injury Collision
On July 8, 2016, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Cold Lake RCMP received a 911 call regarding the theft in progress of a Ford F-350 from one of the tow yards in Cold Lake. Further calls were then received of a hit and run, as well as a gas and dash involving the same stolen truck.
A 4th call was then received of an injury single vehicle collision on Highway 28 just south of the sail boats. RCMP arrived on scene and confirmed the stolen truck was linked to the string of incidents prior to the collision. The stolen truck, as it was leaving the City limits passed another vehicle on the shoulder and then lost control, rolled and came to rest in the ditch.

Cold Lake RCMP arrested and charged a 17 year old male from Fishing Lake. Charges against this male youth include: Break and Enter and Theft Over $5000.00, Mischief Under $5000.00, Theft Under $5000.00, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Assaulting a Police Officer, Uttering Threats to a Police Officer, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident, and Driving While Unauthorized.
A 2nd 17 year old male from the Cold Lake area was also arrested and charged. Charges against this male youth include: Break and Enter and Commit Theft Over $5000.00, Mischief Under $5000.00, Theft Under $5000.00, and two counts of Failing to Comply With a Recognizance. This male youth also had 5 outstanding warrants for his arrest for unrelated matters, which were all executed at the time of his arrest.
Both youths were transported to Cold Lake Hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries and then discharged. Both youths have been remanded into custody appearing at Cold Lake Provincial Court on Tuesday, July 13, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. Both youths cannot be named as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
