Cop Corner with S/Sgt Luis Gandolfi

July is motorcycle safety month and for good reason we’ll be asking all riders to take some extra time to review some facts which they might not have considered.  For example, did you know that most motorcycle collisions occur in the month of July, on paved roads, and during the day?

Additionally, compared to drivers in all types of vehicle collisions, motorcycle riders were more likely to have consumed alcohol before a crash.  Motorcycles, when ridden responsibly can be a fun and safe way to get around.  However, when collisions do happen they can be as unforgiving as the tax man past their payment deadline.  Alcohol is a non-started on motorcycles.  Riding a motorcycle requires sound balance, vision, reflexes, and judgement, all of which are adversely affected by alcohol and other intoxicants.  It would be like trying to play hockey with no skates on.  If you ride, take the time to check your bike out before taking it out.  Make sure you’ve got enough fuel, ensure your equipment is working, and never be in too much of a hurry because we all know how speed can affect the outcome of a collision, particularly ones involving motorcycles.  Stay safe.
