Bonnyville Welcomes Fort Mac Football Players to the Field
“They shouldn’t lose a chance of a lifetime, because of Mother Nature,” head coach of the Bonnyville Bantam Bandits, Dan Jubinville, says he and the Bonnyville Amateur Football Association (BAFA) are working with football players from Fort McMurray to ensure each kid is given the opportunity to tryout for the Zone 7 Alberta Summer Games team. “It wouldn’t be fair to any participant not to be able to have that experience.”
“I put it out there to the kids from Fort Mac, that they are wanting to play, we can get them set up for equipment and all that,” the Bonnyville Bantam Bandits won the League Championship, which puts Jubinville as the head coach for the Zone 7 Alberta Summer Games. Tryouts for the games will be next weekend on Walsh Field. “On the 21st and 22nd, all the best kids from Zone 6 and Zone 7 will be here to try out. There’s 73 kids coming here to tryout, 13 of those kids are from Fort Mac. I also have two coaches coming from Fort Mac.”
“If kids need equipment or lodging, or whatever, call me and we’ll go from there.” Jubinville says there are two kids from Fort McMurray in town already, one living with his family and one Jubinville has welcomed into his home. They’ll be playing football with the Voyageurs during spring football.
