Next Steps for Evacuees in Bonnyville & Area
The Provincial government has indicated that access to long-term support for evacuees starts with registration through the Red Cross.
The Town of Bonnyville and Municipal District of Bonnyville continues to urge all evacuees from Fort McMurray to go the Bonnyville and District Centennial Centre (4313 – 50 Ave.), check in and get registered with the Red Cross (www.redcross.ca) as the first step in the process of getting things back on track.
There is no obligation at this time for evacuees to go to Edmonton. While in our area, evacuees may have the capacity to access emergency funding through Alberta Works offices in Bonnyville (5201 – 44 St. – 780-826-4175) or Cold Lake (6501B – 61 St – 780-594-1984). Please contact them directly to discuss your eligibility for emergency funds.
The funding announced by the Premier of Alberta for every evacuee may be available mid-week. Details on distribution of those funds will be made public next week by the Province.
While in our communities, the municipalities will continue to assist evacuees with information on available supports in our community.
