St. Paul Regional Emergency Management on Call to Help Fort Mac Evacuees

The Region of St. Paul is supporting the evacuees from Ft. McMurray and surround Municipalities where evacuees have gone to.

The 3 grocery stores in St. Paul, Extra Food; Sobeys and St. Paul Co-Op have placed bins at their store for donations. The donations that are being requested are:

  • Water
  • Basic Hygiene Supplies – New in Kind – tooth brushes, tooth paste, deodorant, shampoo’s.
  • Diapers – New in Kind
  • New/Clean Blankets

 

At this time household goods are not being accepted. Only the consumables noted above are accepted. Cash donations are always best as they can then purchase specific needs for the evacuees.

Local grocery store are providing discounts to the public that purchase supplies to donate to the evacuees.

We will have trailers available to pick-up and transport the donations to the Reception Centers that needs the supplies.

 

Red Cross is supporting this incident. You can make monetary donations to Red Cross at 1-800-418-1111 or at redcross.ca

The St. Paul Reception Center has not been activated at this time. If the request from the Province comes through, we will be prepared to assist. Currently we have 5 hotels/motels in St. Paul that have rooms available and 2 motels in Elk Point with rooms available for evacuees that come through the Region of St. Paul.

 

Firefighting Services are on Standby to send some resources up to support the Ft. McMurray Firefighters. We have a water tanker, rapid attack bush truck, wildland firefighting gear and manpower ready at a moment’s notice. The request to send our members from St. Paul and Mallaig will come from the Office of the Fire Commissioner.
